MCHN is a Christian homeschool community in the Morgan County area — a group of families who walk this road together rather than alone. We’re not a co-op with set classes, and we’re not an umbrella school or curriculum provider. We don’t run a classroom or oversee your schooling. What we are is a community built by parents, for parents.

Here’s what that looks like in practice: each parent leads one activity a month, so the load is shared and every family contributes. Our kids get to learn, share, and play together. We take field trips around the local and state area and hold a yearly track and field event. Throughout the year there are often bonus activities, outings, and events too — all optional, so you join what fits your family.

We also stay connected between gatherings through an open group chat, where parents talk, ask questions, swap encouragement, and coordinate. It’s the everyday heartbeat of the group.

The simplest way to put it: a co-op gives you classes and a program gives you curriculum, MCHN gives you people and relationships. Support, friendship, and a community of families who share your faith and your calling to homeschool.

MCHN is a Christian-based community, and our shared faith is central to who we are. Membership includes agreeing to and signing our statement of faith, along with a set of ethics and morals that both families and kids commit to as part of the group. Prayer is woven into everything we do. We pray together before and after every meeting.

Yes. MCHN is built on a shared Christian foundation, and our Statement of Faith is at the heart of who we are. It reflects historic Christian beliefs rooted in Scripture: that the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God and our final authority, that God created the world and designed each person with purpose and worth, that marriage is God’s design of one man and one woman, and that salvation is a free gift received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Everything we do is meant to honor the Lord and reflect a biblical worldview.

Agreeing to the Statement of Faith is part of becoming a member. Our leaders sign it, and all member families read and acknowledge it as part of joining. We share the full statement during our Family Day kickoff, so you’ll have the complete picture before you commit.

We know this level of clarity matters. It helps families know up front whether MCHN is the right fit, and we’d rather be warm and honest about who we are than leave anyone guessing. Joining MCHN is simple. The easiest way to get started is at our annual Family Day, which is open to non-members. It’s a relaxed get-together where we share information, hand out paper packets, and provide QR codes that link right to our site. You can sign up and pay your membership fee there in person, or online whenever it’s convenient.

To become a member, each family completes a Registration Form, Liability Waiver, and Membership Agreement, and pays the annual fee. Membership also includes acknowledging our Policy and Purpose Statement and reviewing the Student Code of Conduct with your children.

The fee is set each year. For the most recent year it was $100 per family annually, or $50 per semester if you’d rather split it. Your paperwork and fee are due by September 30, or within about 30 days of your first activity if you join partway through the year. Once you’re in, your family is added to our internal directory so members can connect with one another.

It’s a great fit, and honestly, new families are some of the ones we love welcoming most. That first year can feel scary, and having people you can ask questions of makes all the difference. You won’t be figuring it out alone.

We pair that welcome with real support. Our leadership and coordinators are happy to mentor newer families, and our open group chat is always available for questions, big or small. As a first-year family, you’re not required to lead an Activity Day either. You’re simply encouraged to join a planning team as a helper, so you can learn the ropes at your own pace.

Curriculum is a common question, and while MCHN doesn’t provide curriculum, every family here uses one in some way. Some use professional programs, others piece their own together, and the group chat is a great place to ask what’s working for people and find what fits your family. You bring the questions, and there’s almost always someone who’s been there.

Whether you’re brand new to the idea or a few years in, there’s a place for your family at MCHN.

MCHN is a participatory community, not a drop-off program. At least one parent stays and takes part alongside their children at our Activity Days, field trips, and events. If you ever need to step away briefly, you simply arrange for another responsible adult to supervise your child and let a member of our leadership team know. Younger children stay under their parent’s direct care, while older kids are accountable to their parents and remain with the group.

Each family also pitches in to keep the group running. Over the course of the year, families take a turn facilitating or co-facilitating one Activity Day, and you’re never doing it alone. Activity Days are run by a facilitating family along with a co-facilitator or two, and our coordinators are there to help with plans and ideas. First-year families aren’t expected to lead at all, just to jump in as helpers and get comfortable.

We also encourage families to take part in at least half of our activities to stay connected and in good standing, though attendance is on the honor system and never tracked. The heart of it is simple: MCHN works because parents show up for their own kids and for each other.

We gather throughout the school year, which runs from our Back-to-School Potluck in late August to our Achievement Banquet in the spring. In most months you can expect at least one Activity Day and one field trip, though some months like December tend to be lighter as families enjoy the holidays.

Activity Days are typically hosted at local parks or at a church in Fort Morgan, and field trips take us to destinations around the local and state region. Because locations and dates vary throughout the year, the best way to stay current is through our group chat, where the schedule and details are always shared.

There’s something happening at MCHN throughout the whole school year. The heart of it is our Activity Days, parent-led gatherings built around art, projects, games, read-alouds, and plenty of unstructured play, where friendships form and kids learn and create together. Each one is planned and run by a facilitating family, so the themes and activities stay fresh and varied.

Beyond Activity Days, we take field trips around the local and state area, exploring everything from working farms to historic landmarks and museums. Each spring we host the Northeast Colorado Homeschool Track and Field Meet, our annual outreach to the wider homeschool community. We also look for ways to serve together, like community food drives.

Our year has a rhythm to it. It opens with our Back-to-School Potluck in late August and closes with our Achievement Banquet in the spring. Along the way there are often bonus activities, outings, and seasonal events, all optional, so your family can join what fits. And between gatherings, our open group chat keeps everyone connected.

MCHN is a mixed-age community, and that togetherness is one of our favorite parts. Families participate together, and our activities are designed to work across a range of ages so siblings can take part side by side and older kids often help the younger ones along.

Right now, the majority of our children are littles through about sixth grade, with a few high schoolers in the mix, so things currently lean a bit younger. That naturally shifts over time, though. Our group tends to ebb and flow, moving through cycles as families grow and kids age up, so the age range we focus on changes along with the families who make up the group in any given year.

So whatever ages your children are, there’s a place for them here, and they’ll be learning and growing alongside friends of all ages.

MCHN doesn’t provide curriculum, and we don’t act as a school or oversee how you teach. Choosing what works for your family is up to you, and that freedom is part of what makes homeschooling great.

That said, you’re not on your own. Every family here uses curriculum in some way. Some use professional programs, others piece their own together from different sources. Our open group chat is one of the best places to ask what’s working for people, compare options, and get honest recommendations from families who’ve tried them. There are legal steps to homeschooling in Colorado, and they’re well covered by the organizations and the state itself, so we’ll point you to the best sources rather than try to restate them here. For how to homeschool legally in Colorado, CHEC (chec.org) and HSLDA (hslda.org) are excellent, up-to-date resources, and Colorado’s governing statutes lay out the official requirements. We highly recommend HSLDA membership for legal guidance and peace of mind.

One important note: MCHN is a supportive community, not a supervisory or legal organization. We don’t oversee your homeschooling or provide legal advice, and the information we share shouldn’t take the place of qualified legal counsel.

That said, you won’t be figuring it out in a vacuum. While we can’t advise you on the law, we’re a community of families who have walked this road, and our group chat is always a good place to ask questions and hear how others have navigated getting started.
